If you are interested in having a new heating system installed in your home, the most popular choices are heat pumps and furnaces. If you aren’t sure which one to choose, our experts can help you make the decision. Each option has its own advantages and disadvantages. Schedule a free on-site consultation today, and we will evaluate your home’s heating needs to determine which option is best for you.
Heat pumps work similarly to an air conditioning system but in reverse. The pump doesn’t make heat, instead it transfers heat from one area to another. The advantages of a heat pump over a gas furnace including the following:
Runs cleaner. Since a heat pump runs on electricity, it is a cleaner energy source than a gas furnace. It creates more energy than it uses.
Safer. Since heat pumps run off of electricity, the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning or gas explosions is eliminated.
Can heat and cool your home. Perhaps the best trait of a heat pump is the ability it has to heat and cool. This makes the pump a cost-effective and convenient option.
There are some disadvantages when you opt to have a heat pump installed, including:
More expensive to operate. Since the pump uses electricity only, versus gas, it can be more costly to run. The cost is dependent on the price of electricity in your city.
Shorter lifespan. Heat pumps typically last between 15 and 20 years, while gas furnaces should last around 20 to 30 years. Since heat pumps run all year long, they suffer from more wear and tear.
Gas furnaces utilize fuel to create heat, and then blow it to different zones of your home. Just like heat pumps, there are pros and cons to choosing a furnace for your home. The advantages include:
Longer lifespan. Since we don’t need to run the heat more than a few months a year in Florida, they don’t suffer as much wear and tear as a heat pump.
Requires less maintenance. Again, since we don’t need to run a furnace all year, it requires fewer repairs and less annual maintenance.
The disadvantages of a gas furnace are the following:
Can’t cool the air. Furnaces, unlike heat pumps, are only capable of heating the air, not cooling it. You will need an additional system for cooling.
Not as safe. Furnaces naturally come with the risk of carbon monoxide exposure and gas leaks.
Not as eco-friendly. Gas doesn’t burn as efficiently or cleanly as electricity does. Furnaces produce toxic gases that are emitted into the environment.
Again, each home is different, so there isn’t a clear choice between gas furnaces and heat pumps. Our team members are happy to help evaluate your home’s needs and help you select which one to install.

We work on all makes and models of pool heaters, and we will quickly execute the repair so you can get back to enjoying the Florida lifestyle by spending time in your pool all year long.
